Sweet revenge

13 years.  13 years I have listened to my man snore so loudly I thought I may end up suffocating him with my pillow.  I remember more that once wanting to punch him in the nose -- I know I have anger issues I need to work on --  especially when I was up with a baby at 3 in the morning and he was snoozing away.  I have kicked his shins so many times I have probably caused permanent bruises.  Then something glorious happened.  I realized he wasn't breathing so I talked him into doing a sleep study.  He was not getting enough oxygen 75% of the night so they put him on a CPAP machine.  The machine is my new best friend.  The only time I have even slightly had an issue with it was once when I woke up in the middle of the night and he was facing me I thought I was lying next to Hannibal Lecter.  I had a mini heart attack.

This morning when he woke up he pulled out the iPad and started up a recording of ME snoring last night. There is a positive side to having a sinus infection.  Sweet, sweet victory.  FINALLY it was him who had to listen to me!  It only took 13 years but it was finally my turn.

See, this is why I am going to hell.  Instead of feeling bad about it, I am basking in the glory.

Disclaimer:  I do love nate. There will be no smothering him with a pillow or punching him in the face.

Am I the world's meanest mom?

Tell me, what kind of a parent gives a kid a present and then takes it away a couple months later?  That's right.  This parent does.  I destroyed a 10 year old's world today when I told him that he would no longer be allowed to play one of the video games he got for Christmas.  Had I known in the first place how violent it was I would have never agreed to it.  I kind of knew but figured it would be okay because he has a lot of friends that get to play it.  I tried to let it be okay but couldn't handle it anymore.  I told Nate it needed to go away and he agreed.  Dilon left the house this morning without saying a word to me.  I can only yell "I love you" so many times before someone ends up calling the cops because there is a crazy lady repeatedly telling a kid how much she loves him as he walks down the sidewalk.  It's a good thing I didn't die today or he might have actually felt bad for ignoring me.  He'll get over it, right?  When did he get old enough to start having such an attitude with me anyway?  Probably the same time he got old enough to start taking selfies with my camera.

He can take all of his pent up anger out at wrestling this week.

Shockingly when I told Grif he just shrugged his shoulders and said ok.  That boy is such a puzzle to me. He gets angry over the fact that I make him pee before he goes to school but doesn't give two hoots about losing a video game he loves as well.  Speaking of puzzles look at the way I found him putting one together the other day.  I would love to know what goes on inside that boys head.
He put all the pieces where they belonged then connected them.  Interesting approach.

This boy doesn't care to bother with video games, he just wants to play with his mom.  I'm much funner than a PS3 any day.

Then there's this guy who just pulls out the whole woe is me act when I don't give him what he wants.

I just may be the meanest mom in the whole wide world.  (especially if you ask dilon today.)

stupid heights

This fantastic weather is making me want to get something accomplished so I decided to clean out the vehicles. The entire time I kept looking at the Christmas lights thinking those suckers need to come down.  I'm tellin ya one thing, I don't do heights.  Nate is in charge of the lights.  But I couldn't handle it anymore.  I figured my ocd could win over my fear of heights because they were driving me crazy. So out came the ladder.  I tried to climb up it a couple of times with no success.  So what do I do?  Call for the 10 year old to get on the roof and get them down.  He scurries up the ladder like he has done it 1000 times:

I can't be outdone by a kid so I muster all of my courage and head up the ladder again.  I actually got a leg up on the roof.  This is about three rungs higher than I can normally accomplish.  I was feeling all proud until I tried to get my other leg on the roof....then I just got stuck.  Seriously, I could not for the life of me move.  I had nothing to hold onto to pull me up and I was afraid if I tried to go back down the ladder was going to fall out from under me.  I panicked man.  That in turn made the 10 year old jump into action and come and grab my hand.  If I fell he was going down with me.  So I started yelling for Grif.  Grif has a speed that is slightly faster than a snail but alas, he came out of the house to see what all the commotion was about.  I'm praying and screaming at the same time (it can be done) when I decide to calm down because I can't let this moment be forgotten.  So I tell Grif to go grab the camera.  I have decided to actually post the pic he took because Nate is always telling me I need to relax and not be so uptight all the time.  This is a pretty big deal because there are 2 extremely embarrassing things about it.  1- my booty looks very large and in charge and 2- we look totally white trash because we had to rip out our bathtub/shower and haven't hauled it all to the dump yet so it is just sitting on our deck. (I do need to post pics of the new tub.  I have to pole vault to get into it.  Another post for another day.)
Anyway, here goes nothing:

Nice, right?  I stayed like that for probably 10 minutes (with dilon holding my hand the whole time).  I was debating on whether or not to have Grif call Nate and have him come help me.  Instead I closed my eyes, threw my leg back down, and very carefully descended.  I think I may have kissed the ground a time or two when I was finally down.  Dilon just went back to work pulling the lights off like it was nothing.  I am still shaking and this was like 2 hours ago.  I almost cut my finger off when I was cutting the potatoes for dinner.  Never again.  If it was up to me our poor house would never have a Christmas light on it again.

my thoughts exactly

The first (and probably only) post I will ever do that is not actually written by me but I have to share.  This sums things up perfectly......

A poem in memory of the author, Gary Hempleman, for all children with diabetes.

She walks down the hallway in silence so deep,
Keep watch over him, as her little one sleeps.
With meter in hand, she opens his door,
Making sure not to wake him as she crosses the floor,
She sits on his bedside and brushes his hair,
As he dreams of shooting baskets, without a "D" care.
She holds his hand softly; his fingers so small,
As she watches and wonders why "D" came to call.
While she watches him sleeping, so peaceful and warm,
The forces inside him fight a constant "D" storm.
Will he ever be free of shots and blood testing?
She sits and she wonders as she watches him resting.
The beep of the meter breaks the silence of the night;
A small drop of blood tells if everything's right.
The seconds count down to the final display,
I hate this damn meter; i want to throw it away.
The number is fine, one down, a lifetime to go,
As he turns in his sleep, will he ever know?
Why does this "D" happen to someone so small?
My son is my hero, but my baby most of all.
She turns at his doorway, looking back one more time,
It's a nightly routine of the very worst kind.
She walks down the hallway and time passes by,
As she sits in dark silence and quietly cries.
I have to stay strong, and for him i will fight,
We'll battle this "D" with all of our might.
I'll teach him to master and conquer this foe,
This "D" will not stop him, i promised him so.

It's the little things

I've been noticing more and more lately how great the little things in life are.  For instance, flag football on a fairly warm February day.
The mud afterwards was a different story but until then all was well.

These fan-freakin-tastic little things....
I have been going to Layton to get me some salted caramel cupcakes (yumm-o) when there have been some in a small little shop here in town the whole time.  And to add icing to the already delicious cupcakes these are better than the ones in Layton.  Once I figured out they were here I kept talking about them so my super rockstar husband went and bought them for me. BEST. HUSBAND. EVER.  I am so going to be in trouble with these.

And a little Valentine tradition we started last year made it to another year.  2 parents, 4 boys, pizza, and fire at the table.  So simple and the boys love it.

Then there's this little thing that obviously needs to learn the right way to use his potty.  I about pulled his poor ear off trying to get it off his head.  I'm guessing he won't do that again.

Give that boy a treat

Two things today that have made me very happy.

1- It is officially official.  Nate received his diploma.

2- Grif brought me home a Valentine's Day card he made at school.

The inside says:

Dear mom,
Horses are strong, goats are not.
Dogs are poofed, and you are hot.
From, Grifin

Time to go buy that boy a treat!

Why do I even bother?

I literally just get done cleaning the kitchen from dinner and this happens.  4 boys who still want to eat.  I blame diabetes.  Dilon was low and needed more food.  That creates a domino effect every single time.  Why do I waste the time cooking dinner if they are just going to end up eating cereal anyway?
Ignore nate in the background.  He thinks he's funny.

Why can't kids appreciate the beauty of sleep?

I thinks it's official.  Nap time at this house ceases to exist anymore.  I swear my other kids were still taking naps at Baylor's age.  He wants nothing to do with them.  He would much rather be doing this:

Why oh why can't kids appreciate sleep?  If they only knew how much less you get as an adult and how much more you want it.  Such a waste if you ask me.
At least him and Nate are becoming best buddies.

That's fine.  I've got my own bestie:
This boy has discovered he has a love for puzzles just like his favorite gal in the world (me).  Jammin to music, doing our puzzles.  Life doesn't get much better than that.  Well it might if I had any of these left to eat:
That's right, I pulled out my inner betty crocker and made some spudnuts.  I thought they were going to be a disaster as I was making them.  This bowl was full so I would say they were successful.

anyone else have buyer's remorse?

It's only been a couple of weeks since Christmas and I already have buyer's remorse (even though it wasn't actually me that bought this particular item).  It's been 20ish days of nonstop fighting over who gets to play the PS3 at the Wright house.  The only reason I agreed on the PS3 in the first place is 1- Nate already had it ordered when he asked me about it.  Hello!  What ever happened to mutual decisions between husband and wife? Okay, apparently I agreed to it.  I have absolutely no recollection of that so I was either asleep or watching t.v.  He thinks he's pretty funny.  2-It was also considered a graduation present and 3-he found an excellent deal on a pre owned one on ebay.  So good that I am desperately hoping we didn't purchase a stolen item.  Here's to having faith in humanity and believing it was someone with money who just didn't want it any more.
I'm so sick of hearing them fight over it I'm ready to put it back on ebay.....maybe I should do that and let Nate know about it after it has been sold.  Then we'll see who has the last laugh.

I thought for sure after all the Christmas festivities were over and done the things that would get to me the most would be the play doh or the paintable glass figures grandma was nice enough to buy them.

But nope, it's that blasted gaming system. It just might be the death of me.  Eventually they have to get sick of it.

Did anyone notice that this ocd mom actually said she got her kids play doh for Christmas?  That's right.  I'm working on my issues.  I've come to terms with the fact that the play doh is all mixed together and that it takes me 20 minutes to clean up 5 minutes of their fun.  When they ask to play with it I say sure,  grab me a treat, head to another room and all is well in the world.  Hence the reason there is no picture of them playing with it.  I was smart enough to stick around with the paint.  No way I was going to let them paint my counters.

Hello to another new year

Good-bye 2013....helllllooo 2014.  I can't say I am necessarily excited to see 2013 be over.  It was a pretty good year here at the Wright house.  Nothing too eventful happened which is usually a good thing.  We spent our New Years Eve doing what we always do, hanging out with Nate's family.  We ate a lot of crispy brown food, basically any and all things fried, however someone decided to spice it up a bit this year and bring a veggie tray.  I got made fun of by the father in law for bringing purple iced sugar cookie bars.  He said they looked like throw up.  Funny....I recall seeing him eat one or two.  Played a few games and won me 70 bucks baby.  The Wright's don't consider the dice game we played gambling.  All I have to say about that is I put in 5 dollars and walked away with 70. Booyah! We had 13 little boys screaming and running through the house. We set off some fireworks.   We had a good ol' time.

I'm going to get a little sentimental and reflect for a minute on our 2013.

Dilon turned 10--boo to having a kid in double digits. I'm not that old-- and is in 5th grade.  Last year of grade school -- boo again.  I know I shouldn't say that. It is so fun to see the young man he is becoming and he is such a great help around the house.  It's just crazy to think I've been a mom for a decade.  Anyway, back to dilon.  He loves any and all sports.  Started up wrestling this year and did really good at it.  He's a lightweight but he held his own.  He also got his insulin pump which has been a huge help with his diabetes.  So much better than doing all those shots.  Dil really is such a good kid.  I know he will accomplish great things in life.

Grifin turned 8, started the 3rd grade and got baptized.   He also tried wrestling and decided he is a lover not a fighter.  I'm pretty sure he will never do that again.  But hey, at least he gave it a go.  He can still say the alphabet backwards, which I can now do also because of him.  Give it a try.  It's harder than you think.  This kid is definitely my little spit fire and keeps us on our toes.  It is amazing though how many people (especially adults) say what a great kid he is and how he has such a special spirit about him.  I would just like him to stop kicking holes in my walls.  Really he is learning to control his anger a lot better though so I can't complain too much.  Progress, we are making progress here, people.  He is such a blessing in our family. Our home would be so dull without our gus gus.

Dax, aka grandpa's little angel, turned 4 and started preschool.  He has also turned into mom's little devil.  I tell ya, he is so full of mischief right now I don't know what to do with him.  Once he gets in trouble all he has to do is flash that smile and all is forgotten.  I really need to look past the cuteness or we are going to be in big trouble.  He asks me about 2300 questions a day which has me wondering if he is trying to break some sort of record for retaining the most information a persons brain can hold.  He is also one of the most genuine little guys I know.  He compliments me all the time by telling me I look cute or he likes my shirt.  Plus he thinks I'm hilarious.  How long do you think I can keep him fooled?  I love the bundle of energy he is.

Baylor turned 2 and is growing up much faster than I would like him to.  He has turned into a little compilation of his three older brothers.  He is my little helper like dilon, a little spit fire like grif, and full of mischief like dax.  I have never had a kid get into more drawers/cupboards/closets, color on the walls, climb on top of any and everything the way this boy does.  I guess he is just trying to keep up with everyone else.  He screams as loud as ten small schoolgirls combined.  But he also still runs to me in the morning and just lets me hold and love him.  Freeze this time, please.  I look back at all we went through with him and how he shouldn't even be here and I still get choked up.  I know he has important work to do in this life and I can't wait to see what it is he will accomplish.

As for me and Nate (or is it Nate and I) not much has changed with us.  Oh wait, yes.  Yes. It. Has.  We made it through his last four years of school.  I know I sound greedy when I say "we"  but it was seriously a joint effort.  Maybe I should be more humble and give him the credit but nah.  I'm going to steal some as well.    Nate is now the 2nd counselor in the Bishopric and I am 2nd counselor in the primary.  Those are about the only changes I can think of that happened to us.....we are pretty boring here.

This post has turned a little lengthy so I guess I better stop.  I'm sure there were all sorts of other happenings here but I have either already blogged about them or forgotten them.  Here's to hoping 2014 will be the best we can make it be.  Cheers!
