mummy boxes

I'm not that mom.  I'm not the mom to do the cutesy birthday parties for her kids. I'm not the mom that buys the best clothes and the newest electronics. I don't do over-the-top costumes and bedazzled posters for my kids school projects.  I'm mediocre at most of the mom stuff I do.
But this year I stepped it up a notch. I was asked to bring the drinks for Dax's class Halloween party on Monday.  I don't know what got into me but I was feeling festive so I have to document it.

I made mummy juice boxes. Go me!  Baylor decided that since Dax got them for his class he should get them for his preschool class too.  So 50 mummy boxes it is.
I know, it's lame in comparison to what so many other moms do.  But don't be a buzzkill. I'm trying here and for once I feel like that mom.  Despite the finger tips that I can no longer feel because of all the hot glue gun burns, I still feel like I accomplished something.
If nothing else got done the last couple of days, at least the 5 and 7 year old are happy.

Proud mom moment

I had myself a proud mom moment the other night.  Went into Grif's room to help him pick what to wear for red ribbon week. It was a day to wear something from your favorite team.  Well my Grif doesn't have a favorite team but he does have some weird obsession with collecting jersey's.  Grandma Squeaker is his main supplier. Thank you thrift store in Heber.  Anyway I walked into his closet to see what he wanted when he started rattling off the jersey's...in alphabetical order.  Did you hear that? Alphabetical order!  He organized his jersey's. I love this kid!

Everyone mocked me when I alphabetized my cd's when I was younger, but who got the last laugh when trying to find their Reba cd? Me.  I could go right to it so ha.

And can I just point out how so not right it is that Grif has a bigger closet than I do.  Look at all that unused space in there.  I'm jealous.

Two less tonsils in this house

This little babe of mine went in for surgery a couple of days ago.

So long large tonsils and adenoids, hello tubes.  Hopefully now he can hear and start speaking more clearly.  I am going to miss the little game we play around here called who the heck knows what Baylor is trying to say?  Dax usually won.

Now we just get to chill at home until he feels better.

Happy 5th Baylor

I have a new favorite 5 year old!
Happy Happy Birthday, Baylor Von.
We started the festivities a couple days early when grandma and grandpa squeaker came to visit with his cake

Then the next day we celebrated birthday's for Baylor and Elle
Look at the cupcakes Kenzie made for them.  So cute!

and today we celebrate the real deal.  We woke everyone up bright and early so he could open presents before older brothers got on the bus for school.  It's torture to make a 5 year old wait until 8 at night when everyone is home to open them.

and just because I need to always remember the miracles that have happened in my life here is a flashback to 5 years ago

We've come a long way kiddo.
We love you Bay!

It's finally done(ish)!!!!

Finally!!!   We have carpet in our basement!
A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into finishing this on our own.
I really do believe we will appreciate it more because of it.
I know that I appreciate the fact that Nate and I survived each other through the process.

It's not 100% finished (more trim and odds and ends still. and the bathroom, but that won't be for awhile.) but it is livable.
As soon as the carpet guys left Grif had his bags packed ready to make the move down there. I guess he was tired of sleeping on Dilon's bedroom floor.  Plus he has missed his full size bed this last year (can you believe it has been a year since we moved out of our old house?!?).  The kid has been in heaven the last couple of nights.
I'm also in heaven --- new. carpet. smell. Enough said.

Preschool for Baylor

My baby started preschool yesterday.
He was the first kid I didn't get to take to his first day of school.
I didn't shed a tear but that's only because I was at work.  I work the days he is at school so I am never going to get to drop him off or pick him up.  Lame.
Nate was a slacker and didn't get his first day of school pic (don't dads know these things are important?) so I had to snap a shot after I got home from work. Still counts, right?
Such a handsome little fella.

First day of school 2016

The first day of school rules!!!

Yesterday was the first day of school for the boys.  I think we were all ready to get back to a schedule in this house. But then once they were all gone I missed my helpers.  I mean they drive me crazy at times but it was lonely with 3/4 of them missing.

 Dilon-8th
Grifin-6th

Dax-2nd

and Baylor is still chillin' at home with mom.  He missed the cut off for kindergarten by about 3 weeks. So we will wait another year.  I kind of enjoy the 1 on 1 time I get with him.  Preschool pics to come.

So I spent about an hour and a half after school yesterday reading, signing and filling out all the forms from the teachers.  By the end I had had enough and this was the result of that.

I don't know if you can really see it or not but there's a good chance Dax will have a rough 2nd grade year because of it.
I'm kidding.  I'm good friends with his teacher so it's fine.  I 'm sure it's fine.  I really hope it's fine.
Also there is a back story with the not letting other kids pee on his shoe answer.  Happened to Dilon in her class before we were friends. A kid peed on his shoe (you know 7 year old's and their aim), and dilon had to move his clip down because of it.  Probably the only time he had to move his clip down because the boy is a brown noser.  Anyway, it's been a long running joke since then.  Good times.

Happy 2016/17 school year everyone!

The happenings lately

I feel like we are in the stage of life where we are on the go constantly.  I long for a day we can all sit home with nothing to do.  Not happening.  Between finishing the basement--still not done, but soon--, kids & sports, work, church stuff, etc.  we never have a minute to just be.  I know one day I will miss it.  I will miss this craziness right?

The most wonderful time of the year has begun.
Football baby!!!
My Dax gets to play this year. He's so little but he's not scared. Nobody would coach the 7 year old team so Nate got wrangled into doing it.  No one gave these boys the slightest chance of scoring a touchdown let alone winning a game. Well Nate for the win!  Dax's little 7 year old team won their  very first game.  Whoop, whoop.
^^Is he not one of the cutest kids you've ever seen?!!?^^

The hot pink shoelaces were an excellent choice.  It makes it much easier for this mom to know where he is on the field.

Dilon's team lost a heart breaker for their first game of the season.  They were down 35-36 against a tough team, had the chance to win at the end but couldn't get it in.  That's the kind of stuff that can destroy a 13 year old's world.  He got over it so all is well.
^^He's the little one on the end.

My older boys think they can keep growing up on me.  We've had our back to school nights this week.  Grif only had a minor meltdown while trying to open his locker.  He got it though, he's a rock star. And the kid signed me up for the ptsa before I really knew what was happening.  I'm not the ptsa type.  I don't even know what it means so wish me luck.

^^again, dilon's the little one in the pic.  Poor kid, he'll hit a growth spurt eventually.

We did a little shoe shopping and I discovered I fit into Dilon and Grif's shoes.  Score for me.  I mean  I would never actually wear them after their sweaty, smelly, boy feet have been in them but it's nice to know I have options.

No meetings for me this Sunday (just Dilon, hence the reason we are all still in pj's and he's in Sunday best.) so in honor of the Olympics we had a family "friendly" balloon volleyball tournament.
Nate cheats!

Life is crazy but it's good.

Happy 13th Dilon

So I'm a few days late in writing this post.  I think it's due to the fact that I can't quite grasp the concept of what it is I am about to blog on.
I have had years to prepare for this, but really how do you prepare for something this massive. This gigantic.  This enormous. (get the point yet?)

I'm officially the mother of a TEENAGER!!!!!
This is what they warn you about.  For years I've heard everyone say: "just wait until you have a teenager!".  Well I've waited.  I'm ready.  I say bring it.

I blame Nate.  He's getting older but I'm certainly not.  (just forget the fact that I celebrated my 37th yesterday.  I still feel 24 so that's gotta count for something)

Ask how awesome Dilon's 13th birthday was.  It wasn't awesome.  It was kind of sad.
I blame football.  (I like to play the blame game a lot.)   He had practice and coach says you can't miss practice.  Just trying to teach my kid not to be a rule breaker.
His birthday was on Monday so we went out Saturday to celebrate.  Just lunch and a little shopping. He just had to have Hawaiian sandals.  They look girly to me but all the teenage boys have them so he had to too.  Remember he's a teenager now, it's a big deal.
Then on his actual birthday he didn't get a thing.  Okay, I felt guilty and bought him a candy bar otherwise he really would not have gotten one thing to open.
I blame wrestling (ha, see what I did there....the blame game...okay, I'm done).  He just had to have a cool singlet for wrestling this year.  The dang thing was 75 bucks so I told him if that's what he wanted that was all he was getting. I actually held my ground and stuck with it. I mean, minus the sandals, I stuck with it. Oh, and the candy bar but that doesn't count, right?
So the singlet is still being made, hence the reason for no presents to open.
Grandpa Bernie saved the day and took him golfing Monday morning so his day wasn't completely lame.
I still can't quite wrap my head around the fact that I have a teen but dang it, so far I've conquered.  I don't know what all the fuss is about with everyone else and their teens.  Mine is pretty awesome if I do say so myself!
Love you Dil pickle!!!!

Wright reunion 2016

Our summer has been pretty boring. Hence the reason my blog has been neglected.  There's just not a lot happening.
No fun vacations
No camping trips to clear creek
Nothing too exciting.
We did have baseball.  Baseball was fun. Hot but fun.

We have been finishing our basement so that has taken 90% of our time.
We are so close to done.  Doors, trim, and carpet and it will be complete.  Pics to come of that.  Nate has worked his tail off to make it happen.
Our poor yard has been neglected so that's just dirt and weeds.  Maybe next summer we can have grass.  It's the simple things you take for granted until you don't have them anymore.

We were able to spend a little quality time with the Wright's at a family reunion last week.

I didn't get a lot of pics but I didn't completely fail, so here are a few

The older I get the more grateful I am for family.  What would be the point of being here without all these cute little faces surrounding me.  I mean at times they make me want to pull my hair out but right now I am sitting at home in silence because they are all off doing other things and I miss them.

Life is good.  Even if our summer has been mediocre.  I still wouldn't change it for the world.
